Niagara IceDogs News Release
The Niagara IceDogs needed a shootout to beat the Belleville Bulls 4-3 in Belleville Sunday afternoon.
Carter Verhaeghe started the scoring at 8:13 of the first period when he wired a wrist shot over Bulls goaltender Charlie Graham's shoulder. Justin Lemcke answered for the Bulls, before Graham Knott restored the one-goal lead just 16 seconds later. Anthony DiFruscia's ninth of the season gave the IceDogs a 3-1 lead heading into the second period.
Lemcke scored his second to bring the Bulls within a goal at 7:31 of the second period and Stephen Harper tied the game at 3-3 just over 10 minutes later.
After a scoreless third period, the IceDogs headed to overtime for the third time in three days. The teams exchanged chances in the extra frame, but a shootout was needed to solve this one.
IceDogs forward Billy Jenkins scored the only goal in the shootout as Brent Moran stopped all three Bulls shooters to give the IceDogs the win.
They take four of a possible six points this weekend and move into seventh in the Eastern Conference.
