IceCats vs. Springfield: First Meeting of Season

The 'Cats and Falcons meet for the first time this season Wednesday night. The 2-6 Falcons come into tomorrow's game having won 3-1 in Manitoba on Saturday. They currently sit in last place in the five team East Division. Ramzi Abid is their leading scorer with five goals and four assists. Four of his goals have come on the power play and the fifth was short-handed. Worcester was 6-2 vs. Springfield last season.

The Monarchs are on a 5-0-1 undefeated streak and are in first place in the North Division with a 5-1-1 record. Joe Corvo and Steve Kelly lead the offensive charge with four goals and six assists in seven games. Manchester defeated Portland 4-3 in overtime on Saturday. The Monarchs lead the AHL with 17 power play goals, 33 goals, 57 total assists and 90 total scoring points.

Sat., Nov. 2 vs. Manitoba Moose - Worcester's Centrum Centre

Saturday marks the third of four meetings between these two teams. To open the season, Manitoba defeated Worcester in both games in Winnipeg back on October 11th and 12th. The Moose are 4-5-1 and third in the four team Canadian Division. Center Jeff Farkas leads the club with three goals and eight assists. They split a two game series with Springfield last weekend.

St. John's leads the four team Canadian Division with a 5-2-1 record. St. John's is on a 4-0-1 undefeated streak and have currently outscored their opponents 33-23, overall. The Leafs play in Bridgeport on Wednesday, in Providence on Friday, and in Lowell on Saturday before the tilt with Worcester on Sunday.

GOALS: WOR: Aris Brimanis, Blake Evans, 2 Justin Papineau, Christian Backman PRO: Leahy, Hilbert

NOTES: Friday night at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence, the IceCats earned their second win of the season as they defeated the Bruins, 5-2. Five IceCats players recorded two points: Aris Brimanis (1/1/2), Jason Dawe (0/2/2), Mark Rycroft (0/2/2), Justin Papineau (2/0/2) and Sergei Varlamov (0/2/2). Defenseman Christian Backman recorded his first North American professional goal. Justin Papineau's second goal and Blake Evans' goal came only 20 seconds apart in the second period.

4-4 TIE - Sun., Oct. 27 vs. Providence Bruins - Worcester's Centrum Centre ATT: 4,709

GOALS: WOR: John Pohl, Jason Dawe, Greg Davis, Jeff Panzer PRO: Kultanen, Herr, Vernarsky, VanOene

NOTES: Sunday afternoon at Worcester's Centrum Centre, the IceCats and Providence Bruins skated to a 4-4 tie. IceCats forwards Jason Dawe and Jeff Panzer both recorded one goal and one assist. Dawe's goal was his first as a member of the IceCats. The IceCats fired a season-high 44 shots on net, including 23 in the second period. Greg Davis recorded his first goal of the season, while Sergei Varlamov registered two assists.
