Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
ST. JOHN'S, NL - The Hamilton Bulldogs wrapped up their season series against the St. John's IceCaps with a 6-0 shutout loss, splitting the back-to-back March games to bring their 2011-2012 matchup record to 3-4-1-0.
The IceCaps took a 1-0 lead at 15:18 into the first period. Spencer Machacek fired the puck from behind the Hamilton net, his backhand shot bouncing past starting netminder Nathan Lawson. Just 2:07 later, Zach Redmond sent the puck up high to make it 2-0 IceCaps. St. John's led Hamilton 17-4 in shots after 20 minutes.
Machacek scored his second of the game on a second period power play, deflecting Jason Jaffray's point pass into the Bulldogs net to give the IceCaps a 3-0 lead. Machacek completed his hat trick at 11:07 into the period on another power play. Robert Mayer took over the Bulldogs net at this time. Then, Aaron Gagnon scored his 10th of the season with less than 5 minutes to play in the second stanza after Jason King's pass bounced off a skate and onto his stick, making it 5-0 IceCaps.
The IceCaps added to their total when the puck bounced off Jason Gregoire and into the net just 2:04 into the third period. St. John's recorded 47 shots in the game while Hamilton registered a season low 12 shots on goaltender Edward Pasquale. The previous low of 21 shots was registered against the IceCaps on Friday, December 2nd, 2012 in a 4-0 Bulldogs loss at Copps Coliseum.
