St. John's IceCaps News Release

The St. John's IceCaps rebounded from an early 2-0 deficit to down the Manchester Monarchs 5-3 Saturday night at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester.

Carl Klingberg, Aaron Gagnon, Patrice Cormier, Spencer Machacek and Jason Jaffray (into an empty net) scored for the IceCaps, who snapped a five-game losing streak.

Tanner Pearson scored on the Monarchs' first shot, after being sent in alone against IceCaps netminder Mark Dekanich 3:55 into the first period. Brandon Kozun made it 2-0 Manchester on the Monarchs' fifth shot about four minutes later, which chased Dekanich from the game. Chris Carrozzi, just recently recalled from Ontario of the ECHL, took over for Dekanich between the pipes and was solid the rest of the way, in picking up the win.

St. John's came out of the first intermission like a team possessed. Klingberg's heavy wrist shot found the back of the net at the 3:20 mark of the second and Gagnon followed 27 seconds later with his first of the season. Cormier got in behind the Monarchs' defence and gave St. John's its first lead at 12:06. Machacek's 10th of the season, on the powerplay, at 8:24 proved to be the winner as Kozun scored his second of the game with approximately five minutes remaining to make it nail-biting time for IceCaps fans. Jaffray sealed the win with an empty-netter in the dying seconds of the game.

The IceCaps face off against the Portland Pirates Sunday afternoon in Lewiston (5:30 p.m. NT). Catch all the action with broadcaster Brian Rogers at stjohnsicecaps.com and on 930 AM, or watch online at ahllive.com. Pregame show begins at 5:00 p.m.
