Freddie Nets GWG in 3-2 Thriller for Worcester

Glens Falls, NY- The Worcester Sharks (23-19-1-5, 52pts) picked up their 12th 1-goal victory on the road this season with a 3-2 win over the Adirondack Phantoms (20-25-2-1, 43pts) on Saturday night in front of 4,442 fans at the Glens Falls Civic Center. Game five of the five game road trip continues on Sunday afternoon with a 3:05pm (EST) start in Providence, RI vs. the 1st place Bruins.

Alex Stalock made 26 saves to snap a personal six game skid (0-4-0-2) and Jon Matsumoto scored against his former team while captain John McCarthy made it three goals in his last three games. Freddie Hamilton broke a 2-2 tie late in the third period for the game winner as the Sharks won 3-2. The Sharks are now 3-1-0-0 on their five game road trip.

The Sharks grabbed a 2-1 lead in the first period with a pair of late goals. Jon Sim (7th) gave Adirondack a 1-0 lead at 4:47 with a power play strike by finishing off a 2-on-0 after a turnover in the Sharks zone. Worcester tied the score at 1-1 with a power play strike by former Phantoms forward Jon Matsumoto (11th) after a great feed behind the net by Bracken Kearns at 16:16. John McCarthy (8th) was the beneficiary of a terrific Freddie Hamilton pass at 18:16 to give the Sharks a 2-1 lead. McCarthy took a diagonal feed by Hamilton and the Worcester captain ripped it past the clocker side of Scott Munroe. The Sharks outshot the Phantoms 10-7 through 20 minutes of play.

Adirondack tied the score at 2-2 in the second period after Garret Roe (4th) sent a one timer rocket from the right circle past Alex Stalock midway through the frame. Bracken Kearns (7th FM) and Cullen Eddy (12th FM) dropped the mitts at 19:24 after Andreas Lilja sent Kearns to the ice with a wicked check. Each team had 20 shots on goal through 40 minutes of play.

Rookie Freddie Hamilton scored the only goal in the third period with a beautiful set play after a faceoff win in the Phantoms zone. Hamilton ripped a shot from the right slot after a nice feed from John McCarthy at 16:34 to give the Sharks a 3-2 lead. Stalock held the fort the rest of the way and held on for his 13 win of the season.

The Sharks overall record improves to 23-19-1-5 (52pts in 48gp) and 15-10-0-2 (30pts in 27gp) on the road this season.
