Red Deer Rebels News Release

CRANBROOK - The Red Deer Rebels played their fourth game in five nights with their second visit against the ice since Wednesday. But they couldn't secure a 1-0 second period lead and fell 3-2 to the Kootenay Ice.

FIRST PERIOD

The Rebels had a good start against the Ice and were up 8-4 on the shot clock with seven minutes gone. BOLTON POULIOT made a tremendous save off Jaedon Descheneau with five minutes left in the first frame to keep the game scoreless. Shots on goal were 12-11 for Red Deer.

SECOND PERIOD

Pouliot made anther big save off Kyle O'Connor before the Rebels opened the scoring. TURNER ELSON let a snapshot go from a long way out: he was five feet on the other side of the blue line and used the defenceman as a screen. Kootenay through everything they had at Pouliot, who did everything he did - and then some - to defend off the Ice. For the last seven minutes Kootenay really turned up the heat. The Rebels almost escaped the period with a 1-0 lead, but then with seven-tenths of a second left, Sam Reinhart tied the game on the powerplay. The Rebels were outshot 21-5.

THIRD PERIOD

The Ice continued their relentless pressure on the Rebels and it paid off with two goals in 14 minutes. Erik Benoit scored consecutive goals for the Ice. But, hang on: MATT BELLERIVE took a shot from an unlikely position and the puck hit a leg to beat Kootenay goaltender Mackenzie Skapski to make it 3-2. But the Rebels couldn't do any more damage.

Red Deer was outshot 16-6 in the final period and 48-23 over three periods.
