Pensacola Ice Pilots News Release

Pensacola, FL - Jan Steber and Shaun Landolt each scored twice as the Ice Pilots used three power play goals to defeat the Augusta Lynx 4-1 on Wednesday night at the Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center. The victory is the second straight for Pensacola (19-34-6 44 Points), and it brings them within eight points of Augusta (24-28-4 52 Points) for the sixth and final playoff spot in the South Division.

Jan Steber opened the scoring for the second straight game, giving Pensacola a 1-0 lead at 7:17 of the first period. The original shot by Adam Tichauer was deflected, and Steber was able to bang it home in front of the net. Dallas Steward also had an assist on the goal. Augusta Forward Dan Sullivan changed the momentum of the game with a huge hit on Ice Pilots defenseman Stuart Kerr. The Lynx would continue that momentum and tie the game on a power play goal by Anthony Battaglia. Brian Passmore and Chris Leinweber got the assists. Both teams had seven shots in the period as the game remained tied going into the intermission.

Pensacola slowed down the pace in the second period and regained the lead 2-1 as Jan Steber scored his second goal of the game. The goal came on the power play at the 13:08 mark of the period. Pete Gardiner and Nate Metcalf assisted on the goal. The Ice Pilots outshot the Lynx 11-9 in the period and took a one goal lead into the final stanza.

Penalties would prove costly for Augusta in the third period as Pensacola scored on two late 5-on-3 advantages. Shaun Landolt scored both goals, the first one coming with 5:45 left in the game. Pete Gardiner and Nate Metcalf each recorded their second assist on the goal. Landolts second goal of the period made it 4-1 at the 15:52 mark and ended any thoughts of an Augusta comeback. Nick Lindberg and Nate Metcalf both got assists, giving Metcalf three for the game. Pensacola had 10 shots in the third per iod for a total of 28. Augusta recorded six shots for a total of 22.

David Cann played one of his best games of the season for Pensacola, allowing just one goal on 22 shots, and improving his record to 3-9-2. Jason Wolfe made 24 saves for the Lynx, but took the loss, dropping him to 12-18-5. The Ice Pilots went 3-for-8 on the power play, while Augusta went 1-for-5.

The Ice Pilots continue their road trip with games Friday and Saturday at South Carolina. The trip concludes with games at Augusta on March 12th and at Greenville on March 14th. Their next home games are against South Carolina on March 17th and 18th. Both games start at 7:05 PM.
