Ice Park to remain open until Presidents Day

LANCASTER, Pa.-The Ice Park at Clipper Magazine Stadium presented by Schwanger Brothers will remain open until Monday, Feb. 19, two weeks longer than previously scheduled, the Lancaster Barnstormers announced today. The Barnstormers decided to extend The Ice Park schedule after business in the first seven weeks exceeded expectations. The Ice Park was originally scheduled to close Feb. 4.

"We're seeing skaters of all ages and skill levels at The Ice Park and we're welcoming new customers every week," Barnstormers general manager Kevin Cummings said. "We hope these extra two weeks will give everyone a chance to see how great this event is here at the ballpark." The final day for skating will be Presidents' Day, Feb. 19 with sessions running from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The Ice Park will also be open on Valentine's Day, Wednesday, Feb. 14 for a special "Moonlight Skate" for couples from 6 to 9 p.m. The special rate for couples will be $10 to include skate rentals and unlimited skating.

Attendance at The Ice Park has surpassed 10,000 since it opened on Dec. 7. The Barnstormers ordered additional rental skates in early January to keep pace with demand. Lancaster's only outdoor skating rink is 135 feet by 80 feet and has a special cooling system that keeps the ice frozen in temperatures up to 60 degrees.

"Too much demand is a great problem to have and it's easy to solve," Cummings said. "The rink is really an activity that families, couples and groups can all do together."

The Ice Park at Clipper Magazine Stadium has been presented in its inaugural year by Schwanger Brothers. The heating and oil company said it is pleased the Barnstormers have decided to extend the schedule. "Schwanger Brothers is excited to provide another two weeks of fun-filled entertainment and invites kids of all ages to come out for some fun with us," Steve Schwanger said.

The Ice Park will host a "Freeze Out Hunger" food drive this weekend, Jan. 25-28, to support the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank. Skaters who bring two or more non-perishable food items will receive a free skate rental. The first skating session this evening begins at 5 p.m.

The Ice Park will close in time for the Barnstormers to prepare the field for their home opener on Friday, May 4, 2007. Only season ticket holders can guarantee seats for opening day and the 2007 Atlantic League All-Star Game, to be held July 11 at Clipper Magazine Stadium. Single game tickets will go on sale during the Barnstormers' FanFest, scheduled for Saturday, April 14.
