Ice park coming to Clipper Magazine Stadium
November 6, 2006 - Atlantic League (AtL)
Lancaster Stormers News Release
LANCASTER , Pa.-It will be another festive winter at Clipper Magazine Stadium. The stadium will be the site of a public ice skating rink opening on Dec. 2, the Barnstormers announced on Friday. "The Ice Park at Clipper Magazine Stadium" will be the only outdoor skating rink in Lancaster, complete with night-time skating, music, food and even a Zamboni. The park will be open to public skating Thursdays through Sundays.
"Ice skating is a hugely popular activity for families in communities across the country," Barnstormers General Manger Joe Pinto said. "During the summer this ballpark is like Lancaster's boardwalk. Now it's Lancaster's Rockefeller Center --only our ice rink is bigger."
The ice rink will be open to public skating on Thursday and Friday evenings, all day on Saturdays and Sunday afternoons. The rink will also be open during several winter holidays, including Christmas Eve, the week between Christmas and New Year's; including New Year's Eve, New Year's Day, and Martin Luther King Day.
The skating rink will be constructed on the stadium infield and will measure 135 feet long by 80 feet wide. The rink will be able to accommodate more than 200 ice skaters at one time. An ice cooling system below the surface will allow the skating rink to be open in temperatures up to 60 degrees.
"We're always thinking of new ways to bring people from across the Susquehanna Valley into downtown Lancaster," Pinto said. "More than 20,000 people attended snow tubing here last year and we wanted to give them a new and exciting reason to come back this winter."
The demand to use Clipper Magazine facilities is year-round and the rink is designed as a great alternative for corporate and group outings. Group-exclusive events are available Monday through Wednesday. Stadium party suites are also available for group events, including birthday parties. Skate rentals will be available and there will be space for guests to change into skates and storage space for shoes and belongings. Stadium concessions will be available, featuring some ballpark favorites as well as soups, coffee and hot chocolate.
