PENSACOLA, FL - T he Pensacola Ice Flyers completed their three games in three nights stretch with Peoria Rivermen with three wins. Tonight's game was a 3-2 overtime win that saw three different goal scorers finding twine for the Ice Flyers.
The first period proved to be scoreless but not for a lack of chances as both teams had great opportunities but failed to convert. The period finished with both squads knotted not only in goals, zero, but also shots, 11.
The Ice Flyers continued the trend of the weekend when they once again scored first. Steve Whitely notched his second goal of the season with a long shot that beat Peoria's Eric Levine. Paul Rodrigues and Mitchell Good had the helpers for the Whitely's goal and for Rodrigues it was his league leading 15th assist. Peoria tied the game on a power play with Good in the box for Goalie Interference when Parker Stanfield put home a rebound before Johnny Griggs realized where the puck had gone.
Peoria started the third period with a full two minute power play with Ryan Salvis in the box for Slashing after he slashing a Rivermen player after the final whistle of the second. Just 29 seconds into the period and the penalty, Peoria cashed in with their second power play tally of the game as Tyler Fernandez beat Griggs. Pensacola tied the game with 12:46 remaining in regulation when Good batted in a rebound of a shot by Donnie Harris. Shaun Arvai got the other assist on the goal.
The two teams headed to overtime knotted at two for the second straight night and this time they didn't need a shootout. With only 1:27 left in the extra period, Joe Caveney put the puck in the back of the net to secure the win. John Dunbar and Arvai picked up the helpers on the game winning goal.
Griggs picked up his second win of the season by making 29 saves on the 31 shots Peoria threw his way. Caveney was named the second star of the game.
