Ice Flyers Win 2-1 in a Shootout against the Mayhem

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Pensacola Ice Flyers won in a shootout against the Macon Mayhem 2-1. Matt Johnson scored both goals for the Ice Flyers. Jake Faiella scored for the Macon Mayhem.

The Ice Flyers outshot the Mayhem 13 to 5, but neither team was able to capitalize on their chances in the first period.

Matt Johnson scored 1:23 into the second period on a 5-on-3 power play. He was assisted by Andrew Schmit and Nathan Bruyere. Assisted by Stathis Soumelidis and Jake Trask, Jake Faiella tied the game for the Mayhem at 9:29. Pensacola outshot Macon 11 to 5.

Neither team was able to score in the third period, sending the game into overtime. After five minutes of three-on-three sudden death overtime, the game remained tied at 1, forcing the game into a shootout.

Both teams were unable to score until the fourth round of the shootout where Matt Johnson scored for Pensacola. John Siemer was unable to score in the fifth round for Macon leading the Ice Flyers to win 2-1.

NOTES:

Matt Johnson scored both of the goals for Pensacola.

Brian Billett was in net and blocked 21 of 22 shots faced.

Fans who were in attendance for the game held on Friday, November 16 are encouraged to hold on to their tickets. SMG is going to provide a voucher for a free food item or non-alcoholic beverage. Fans can redeem this voucher at the Pensacola Bay Center Box Office starting on Monday, November 19. This voucher will be valid for any Ice Flyers regular season game for the 2018-19 season beginning with the game on Wednesday, November 21.

Friday, November 30 is Tampa Bay Lightning Night! Puck drops at 7:35 PM! The Ice Flyers welcome back Lightning mascot Thunderbug and a few of the Lightning Girls. Former Tampa Bay Lightning Captain, Hall of Famer and Stanley Cup Champion Dave Andreychuk will also be in attendance!
