Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release

Pensacola, Fla. - The Pensacola Ice Flyers began their three-game weekend on the road in Augusta on Thursday night and came away with a 3-0 victory to improve to 4-2-1 on the season, while Augusta fell to 0-5-1.

The shots on goal were fairly even with the RiverHawks getting a small edge as they outshot the Ice Flyers 32-29. Both teams failed to capitalize on power play opportunities as they each went 0 for 3.

Augusta opened the scoring nearly nine minutes into the game when Mike Switzer shot the puck from the blue line that beat Pensacola netminder Steve Christie.

Ryan Salvis would draw the Ice Flyers even with a marker just over seven minutes into the second frame, with assists from his linemates Jordan Chong and John Dunbar.

As regulation time approached its end, Dunbar scored his third goal of the season to put Pensacola in the lead 2-1 with only four minutes left. Augusta pulled their goalie for an extra attacker, however the Ice Flyers took control of the puck and Patrick Knowlton buried it in the empty net to solidify the road victory for Pensacola.

The same two teams battle again Friday night in Augusta at 7:35 p.m. EST. Pensacola then returns home for a Sunday afternoon contest versus the Huntsville Havoc as they meet for the first time in the 2012-13 season. Augusta travels to Fayetteville on Saturday night to face the FireAntz.
