Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release

After losing 4 in a row, the Ice Flyers found themselves facing a rival in desperate need of a win. They got just what they needed when they beat the Louisiana IceGators 5-3 tonight in the Hangar.

The Ice Flyers and Chris Wilson in particular, came out hot. A mere 56 seconds in to the game, Wilson scored an unassisted goal off of a Louisiana turnover. Just a minute later and 9 seconds into a power play, Ryan Ramage found Wilson who again put the puck past Louisiana's B.J. O'Brien. During the remainder of the first, the game settled a bit with good offensive chances for both teams.

Although the power play had succeeded once out of two times in the first, the Ice Flyers gave up a shorthanded goal when Shawn McNeil took an outlet pass and skated in on Corey Milan all alone. The Ice Flyers would again take a two goal lead when defenseman Kevin Brojek scored his first goal of the season on a laser of a slap shot from the blue line, straight in front the goal. Mike Carter and Chris Wilson picked up the assists. About two and half minutes later, Brojek fired another slapper that was tipped in by Jordan Chong. Mike Carter earned his second assist of the night.

The Ice Gators would cut the lead down to 4-2 when Brayden Metz scored just 36 seconds into the third. Approximately 5 minutes later Andrew Howes would score his second goal since returning to the Flyers when he and Matthew Robertson skated toward the IceGators' net on an odd man rush; Ryan Hohl had the other assist. The IceGators continued to fight and cut the Ice Flyers lead to 5-3 when Josh Boyd scored at the 10:42 of the third. The continued to pressure the Ice Flyers' defense and Corey Milan, they even pulled O'Brien when the Ice Flyers had two men in the box for a 6-on-3 advantage, but it was all for naught as 5-3 ended up being the final score.

Corey Milan stopped 30 of the 33 shots Louisiana fired at him. The Flyers swept the three stars of the game with Mike Carter's two assists earning him 3rd, Kevin Brojek for his goal and assist 2nd, and, with two goals in the first minute and fifty-six seconds, Chris Wilson was named 1st star.

The Ice Flyers' will be back in action on Saturday when to head to Biloxi to take on the Mississippi Surge. It will be a 7:05 start at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.
