Ice Flyers set round one playoff schedule after 4-3 OT loss to Mississippi

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. - The Pensacola Ice Flyers (31-20-5) saw late heroics by Paul Rodrigues to send the game to overtime before they fell 4-3 to the Mississippi RiverKings (28-18-10) to conclude the 2015-16 SPHL regular season on Saturday night. After the Ice Flyers locked up second place last night, they awaited the results of tonight to determine their opponent in the first round of the 2016 SPHL President's Cup playoffs.

The Ice Flyers will face the Huntsville Havoc with Game One of the series being played inside the Pensacola Bay Center on Thursday, April 14, at 7:05 p.m. Game Two will be played on Saturday, April 16, at 7:05 p.m. inside Propst Arena at the Von Braun Center in Huntville, Ala. Game Three, if necessary, will be played at a neutral site inside the Columbus Civic Center in Columbus, Ga., on Sunday, April 17, at 5:05 p.m. Eastern Time due to a previously booked event at the Pensacola Bay Center.

After a scoreless first period, Charlie Adams opened the scoring with a power play goal 1:17 into the second. Stephen Buco and Jeremy Gates picked up the helpers. Nearly 7 minutes later, the RiverKings tied it at one with a goal off the stick of Max Cook. Matt Harrington gave Mississippi the lead when he scored with 2:11 left in the second.

In the third, Mississippi was able to extend their lead to 3-1 thanks to Ryan Marcuz 4:07 into the third. Jeremy Gates cut the lead to 3-2 when he cashed in with a power play goal scored with 8:08 left in the third. Rodrigues and Buco assisted on the marker. Ice Flyers head coach Rod Aldoff elected to pull goalie Matt Zenzola in favor of the extra attacker and it paid off. Rodrigues scored the extra attacker goal with 30 seconds remaining in regulation. Mississippi's Mike Grace wasn't daunted however and scored the game winning goal 1:43 into the five-minute overtime period to secure the victory.

Zenzola stopped 25 of the RiverKings' 29 shots on goal to finish the year with a 9-4-1 record.
