Peoria Rivermen News Release

A GURRRREAT GAME

Last night's 6-1 Rivermen win over Columbus featured a career-high five-point performance for Rivermen winger Mike Gurtler, who scored three goals and added two assists. The hat trick is Gurtler's second career three-goal game in the SPHL, and his first since November 22, 2013. This season for the Rivermen, Gurtler has skated in 31 games and recorded 20 points on 11 goals and nine assists.TOO MUCH TOOMEY

Peoria's 6-1 win last night featured a pair of goals and two assists from Rivermen center Connor Toomey to set a single-game career high and give him 42 points in 47 games this season. Toomey's 42 points ties him with Huntsville's John Lidgett for most points among all SPHL rookies this season, and since being acquired in a mid-season trade with Macon, Toomey has scored 28 points on 11 goals and 17 assists in just 30 games.

THE MASKED MAN

With their lone goal last night, the Columbus Cottonmouths broke up a personal scoreless streak of 169:36 overall and 166:21 at Carver Arena for Rivermen goaltender David Jacobson, who had notched back-to-back shutouts in wins April 2 at Knoxville and March 26 against Mississippi. For the season, Jacobson is 14-8-0 with a 2.38 GAA and a .921 save percentage. Since starting his pro career 0-4-0 with the Macon Mayhem, the Janesville, Wisconsin native has gone 14-4-0 with a 2.18 GAA in 19 games for Peoria.

THE WHOLE SHOOTING MATCH

The Rivermen enter play tonight second in the SPHL at 33.98 shots on goal per game, and in the first period of games this season, the Rivermen are out-shooting their opponents 653-515, and out-scoring their foes 70-31, each representing the widest such margin for any SPHL team in any period this season. When out-shooting opponents this season, the Rivermen are 25-6-2, and when leading after one period, Peoria is 26-5-1.

WHAT'S AHEAD

After tonight's game the Rivermen begin the first round of the SPHL President's Cup playoffs next Wednesday when they play Game 1 of the Best-of-3 first round at Macon before the series moves to Peoria's Owens Center for game 2 and, if necessary, game 3.
