Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release

Hours after the Ice Flyers finished off the Mississippi RiverKings at home 4-1, they boarded the bus to Lafayette, LA to face the IceGators in a Sunday matinee contest. Seven different Ice Flyers scored in a 9-1 thrashing, including a hat trick by Matthew Robertson.

Andrew Harrison of the Ice Flyers opened the floodgates only 2:39 into the first, with assists from Kevin Brojek and Ryan Hohl. Harrison and Brojek would set up Dan Buccella ten minutes later with his 3rd goal in the last 2 games. Ryan Ramage finished off the scoring for the Ice Flyers in the first frame; Jordan Chong recorded the assist.

Just over 8 minutes into the second period, Pensacola's leading scorer, Chris Wilson, got on the score sheet with his marker that was assisted by Andrew Howes. Jordan Chong continued the onslaught with a powerplay goal with just over a minute remaining in the second. Matthew Robertson continued his weekend of scoring in the final seconds of the period. After scoring 2 goals in Friday's contest, Robertson scored on the powerplay with his first of 3 with only 4 seconds on the clock. Pensacola finished the second with a commanding 6-0 lead.

The third period did not start off any differently as Ryan Salvis scored 2:22 in with an assist from his line mate Dan Buccella. Former Ice Flyer Tyler Lyon scored the IceGators only goal on the powerplay a couple minutes after Salvis' goal. Just over 5 minutes left, Robertson went back to work, scoring his second of the night. He then finished off his hat trick in style with a short-handed goal.

Despite the 9-1 score, Louisiana outshot Pensacola 33-25. Corey Milan recorded the win in goal for the Ice Flyers, improving his record to 10-11-3, while IceGator netminder Dan Earles had the loss and now has a record of 9-9.

The Ice Flyers sit alone in 4th with a record of 24-18-3 and the IceGators fall to 6th with a record of 22-22-4. Pensacola returns to home ice against the Mississippi Surge Tuesday night at 7:05PM. Louisiana's next games are at home Thursday and Friday against Knoxville.
