Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release

Pensacola, Fla. - The Pensacola Ice Flyers faced the Knoxville Ice Bears on the road Saturday night. The teams exchanged goals but it was a power play marker by Ice Flyer Brent Clarke in the final minutes of the game that made the difference as Pensacola beat Knoxville 3-2.

Knoxville came out in a dominant fashion, outshooting Pensacola 15-3 in the first. They came out of the opening period up 1-0 on a power play goal by Brett Valliquette with 5:52 on the clock.

Penscola had the edge in shots on goal in the second period, outshooting the Ice Bears 13-8. The Ice Flyers began the middle frame with momentum on a goal just 1:22 in by Ryan Raven.

With the game all square at one, Pensacolas Ryan Salvis contributed quickly to the cause in the third period with a goal just 55 seconds into the third. Later on in the period, Pensacola found themselves down 5-on-3 for nearly the entire two minutes due to two penalties just 17 seconds apart. Knoxville captain David Segal capitalized on the two-man advantage and tied the game at 2 with 6:27 remaining.

The Ice Bears were then shorthanded late in the game on an interference call on Tyler Fernandez. Ice Flyer Brent Clarke made no mistake and scored on the power play to go up 3-2 with 3:31 left. After pulling their goalie and sustaining quite a bit of pressure in Pensacolas zone, they could not score the game-tying goal, and Pensacola came away with a hard-fought 3-2 road victory.

Knoxville travels to Fayetteville on Sunday to face the FireAntz at 4:00 p.m. EST. This game completes the weekend for Pensacola. They are back on home ice on Tuesday for a special Fat Tuesday game with puck drop at 6:05 p.m.
