Columbus, GA--The Columbus Cottonmouths used a sparkling performance by Andrew Loewen to take down the Augusta RiverHawks, as the netminder did not allow a goal in Columbus' 3-0 shutout victory.

The Cottonmouths were led by Matt Gingera, who had one goal. Gingera scored on the power play 9:06 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Columbus. A slashing penalty on Drew Baker had put Columbus on the power play. Bret Tyler provided the assist.

The Cottonmouths' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Augusta power plays. Columbus featured an improved defense during the game. The Cottonmouths gives up 2.5 goals on average per game. Columbus put 29 shots on net during the contest, more than the 22.4 it averages per game.

Columbus also got a goal from Marcel Alvarez as well. More assists for Columbus came via Levi Lind, who had two and Tom Maldonado, Jordan Braid, and Mark Thorburn, who each chipped in one.

Augusta's offense operated below it season average. The RiverHawks put an average of 2.5 pucks into the net per game. With 25 shots on target during the contest, Augusta exceeded the 19.4 shots it averages per game this year.

The RiverHawks were led by Matt Auffrey, who took four shots.

Loewen recorded 25 saves for the Cottonmouths. Columbus incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Nick Niedert made 26 saves for Augusta on 29 shots. The RiverHawks incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
