Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release

After a grueling 1530-mile trip to get to Fayetteville, NC immediately following their Tuesday night victory in Lafayette, LA, the Pensacola Ice Flyers took it to the last placed FireAntz Thursday night, beating them 8-1. The Ice Flyers have now played 2 of their 4 game road trip and have victories in both contests. The line of former FireAnt Mike Carter, Chris Wilson and Jordan Chong accumulated 12 points in tonight's win.

A few minutes after the opening faceoff, Mike Carter began the onslaught, scoring for the Ice Flyers. Pensacola was on the offense for the greater portion of the first, outshooting Fayetteville 16-5. 1:20 apart near the end of the first period, Matthew Robertson and Chris Wilson put up goals to make the score 3-0, which is how the period ended.

The second period saw the red line go on 6 times: 5 goals scored by Pensacola; 1 scored by Fayetteville. Ice Flyers' captain Dan Buccella made it 4-0, and just 33 seconds later, Wilson scored shorthanded for his second of the night. A few minutes after that, Wilson completed the hat trick, scoring his 3rd goal when he outwaited the FireAntz goalie as he came across the front of the net.

The score was now 6-0 for the Ice Flyers and that is when former Ice Flyers' goaltender Erik Hudson replaced Mike Brown in goal for the FireAntz. Fayetteville would get on the board with a powerplay marker from their leading scorer in all categories, Chris Leveille. However, Wilson scored his 4th tally just 23 seconds after Leveille's goal, breaking the small amount of energy that remained in the arena. Carter was not done either as he deflected the point shot from Ryan Corry on the powerplay with only 7 seconds remaining in the middle frame. The period ended with the Ice Flyers leading 8-1.

The scoring came to rest for both teams in the third and the final in Fayetteville Thursday night was 8-1, the most goals scored by the Ice Flyers this season. Corey Milan was in net for Pensacola and stopped 19 of 20 shots on goal. Brown, who started for the FireAntz, stopped 16 of 22 shots. After replacing Brown, Hudson stopped 18 of 20 shots on goal.

Pensacola swept the 3 stars of the game: Wilson was the 1st star with 4 goals and 1 assist; Milan received the 2nd star as he was solid between the pipes for the Ice Flyers; and Carter was named the 3rd star with 2 goals and 3 assists.

The Ice Flyers improved their record to 19-13-2, and get right back on the bus and head back to Huntsville for 2 games in the next two nights, completing their road swing. The FireAntz fall to 12-23-3 and in a couple days, they will host the Augusta RiverHawks.
