Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release
The Ice Flyers came into tonight's game looking to get their second win in a row and start a new win streak. The Mississippi Surge came into tonight's game looking for revenge after Tuesday's game in Biloxi that the Flyers won 4-2.
The Ice Flyers were first on the board when Jordan Chong scored just 2:49 into the first period. Mike Carter and Ryan Corry got the assists. About a minute and a half later, Dan Buccella and Mississippi's Scott Jenks dropped the gloves. With 3:22 left in the first period, the Surge's Colin Reddin tied the game at 1 when he took a pass from Adam Stuart as they skated through traffic towards Jeff Rose.
The second period was pretty quiet with a few near misses for both teams but with about 6 minutes left, Matt Ridley put the puck past Rose to give the Surge the 2-1 lead. Ridley's goal would end up being the game winner.
The Ice Flyers were awarded three different power plays in the third period, including one with 3:35 remaining, but they couldn't capitalize on any of them.
Jeff Rose played a great game and stopped 29 of the 31 shots he faced but he still picked up his third loss with the Ice Flyers. The Surge had all three stars of the game with Colin Reddin being 3rd, Kiefer Smiley 2nd, and Matt Ridley 1st.
The Ice Flyers' next game is Tuesday when they travel to Lafayette to take on the Louisiana IceGators in the Cajundome at 7:05 pm.
