Surge win 2-1

Mississippi Surge News Release
Matt Ridley's goal midway through the second period lifted the Mississippi Surge to a 2-1 win over the Pensacola Ice Flyers Friday night in Pensacola. The win is the fourth in the last five games for the Surge.
Ridley, a defenseman, blasted a shot from just inside the blueline past Pensacola goaltender Jeff Rose that broke a 1-1 tie. It was fitting that a defenseman would score the game winning goal, as it was a solid defensive effort, backstopped by goaltender Kiefer Smiley that produced the victory. Smiley stopped 34 of 35 shots he faced.
Smiley's play shone especially for the Surge penalty killing unit. Mississippi killed off all six power play opportunities for Pensacola. That is even more remarkable in light of the fact the Surge didn't have a power play chance of its own, the entire game.
Jordan Chong put Pensacola on top in the first three minutes of the game. With 3:22 left in the first period, Colin Reddin tied it for Mississippi. Ridley's second period goal was his second of the season and first game winning goal.
The Surge returns home Sunday to face the Fayetteville FireAntz at 5:05 p.m.
