Louisiana IceGators News Release

Huntsville, Alabama - Turnovers have been a recurring problem for the Louisiana IceGators this season. That problem reared its ugly head again Thursday night as the Huntsville Havoc capitalized on those errors to defeat the IceGators 4-3.

"It's another frustrating loss," said Louisiana head coach Kevin Kaminski. "We play so well at times. Then we get fancy and turn the puck over. Three of the four (Huntsville) goals came off turnovers."

The Havoc jumped out to an early 2-0 lead. Dennis Sicard opened the scoring 11:30 into the first period. Less than 90 seconds later, Jeff Hazelwood tacked on a powerplay goal. The IceGators responded when Robert Short scored with 1:20 remaining in the period. The IceGators tied the game midway through the second thanks to an Alex Morton goal. However, Huntsville regained the lead 92 seconds later on a Glenn Detulleo goal. Brayden Metz tied the game again for the IceGators five minutes into the third period. The two teams played back-and-forth for most of the rest of the period until the 14-minute mark. A Justin Fox steal and pass to Ray Ortiz set up Mike MacDonald with what became the game-winning goal.

In addition to turnovers, Kaminski blames a lack of second effort from his team as a reason for the loss. "Desperation, want, and will are all things that have to come from inside," he said. "It's a pride thing, and it's inadequate right now. If you don't want it bad enough, then you're in the wrong sport and on the wrong team." He added, "You get out of life what you put into it. Right now, we're not putting too much into it."

The IceGators continue their weekend road trip by heading to Columbus, Georgia, for a two-game series against the Cottonmouths. The first game of that series will be played tonight at 7:00 P. M.
