Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release

LAFAYETTE, LA - The Pensacola Ice Flyers travelled west to Lafayette, Louisiana for the back half of a home-and-home set with the Louisiana IceGators that bookended Thanksgiving. Unfortunately for the Ice Flyers' faithful, another game with Louisiana ended up in the loss column as the IceGators won 5-4.

The IceGators took the 1-0 lead 9:13 into the game with Jake Trask scored for the second straight game against the Ice Flyers. Louisiana went up 2-0 when former Ice Flyer Chris Wilson scored a power play goal with 5:18 left in the period.

The Ice Flyers fought back in the second period. It took a little over nine minutes into the period but Pensacola finally scored when Keegan Flaherty cut the Gators' lead to 2-1 with 10:51 remaining in the frame. Ryan Salvis and Paul Rodrigues got the assists on Flaherty's second goal of the season. Just over seven minutes later, the Ice Flyers tied the game with a power play goal from Brett Lutes. Mike MacIntyre and John Dunbar assisted on Lutes' tally. It took all of 21 seconds for the Ice Flyers to take the lead as Adam Pawlick scored with 3:23 left in the period to give Pensacola the 3-2 lead. Flaherty and Rodrigues had the helpers.

Once the third period got underway, it didn't take long for Louisiana to mount their comeback. Wilson netted his second goal of the game just 1:35 into the period to tie the game. Four minutes later, Louisiana retook the lead with a goal by Jason Cohen. Another four minutes after that, another former Ice Flyer scored to make it 5-3 as Tyler Barr scored his first goal since rejoining the Gators.

Flaherty scored a power play goal with 4:12 left in regulation to cut the lead down to 5-4 with Lutes and Salvis picking up the assists. The Ice Flyers' continued comeback efforts fell short, however, and 5-4 was the final score.

Johnny Griggs stopped 27 of the IceGators' 32 shots.

The Ice Flyers will be back on home ice tomorrow night when they take on the Huntsville Havoc. Puck drop for Aviation Night in the Hangar is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
