Bloomington Thunder News Release

PEORIA - The Bloomington Thunder surged back from a three-goal deficit to cut the margin to one score twice but fell short to the Peoria Rivermen 4-3 on Friday night at Carver Arena.

The Rivermen grabbed a 2-0 lead after one period on a Nick Wheeler goal just 4:42 into the game and a Garrett Vermeersch tally with only 24 seconds remaining before the first intermission. The Rivs extended the advantage to 3-0 on another Vermeersch goal only 3:56 into the second period, but the Thunder lit the lamp only 44 seconds later on a power play goal by Patrick Schafer assisted by Curtis Megginson and Ron Cramer. Megginson cut the deficit to 3-2 with 3:53 left in the middle chapter with assists given to Tyler Noseworthy and Paul D'Agostino.

Wheeler gave Peoria a 4-2 lead with his second goal of the game with 6:36 left in regulation, but the Thunder emptied the net for an extra attacker and scored with 1:37 remaining on a Kevin Walrod goal assisted by Burke Gallimore and Dan Barczuk, but could not tie the game in the remaining time.

Max Strang turned away 29 shots in the loss while Eric Levine picked up a 31-save win. The Thunder were 1-of-3 on the power play while Peoria did not score in four opportunities.
