Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release
The fans that made it out to the Hangar for Race Night were treated to a really great night. The Ice Flyers left the Mississippi RiverKings behind as they sped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period and never looked back.
Ryan Hohl was able to pick up his first goal as an Ice Flyers just past the 9 minute mark with an unassisted tally. Just a minute and a half later, and just 6 seconds into the power play, Dan Buccella found the back of the net as he put the puck behind the RiverKings goalie Scott Darling. Donnie Harris and Ryan Salvis got the assists. Emotions were running high after that and when Paul Holder interfered with Darling, Mississippi's Deven Stillar took exception to it and Kevin Brojek stepped in and both took roughing calls.
The RiverKings snapped Jesse Kallechy's bid for a shutout in his first start for the Ice Flyers just 39 seconds in to the second when Darrell Stoddard scored a shorthanded marker. It didn't matter though as that would be the last time the number on the Mississippi side of the scoreboard changed.
In the third period, Chris Wilson would push the Ice Flyers lead out to 3-1 just under 3 minutes in. Buccella and Ryan Ramage picked up the assists. A minute and 4 seconds after Wilson scored, Buccella picked up his second goal of the game to pretty much put the game out of reach. Donnie Harris got his second assist on the goals' only helper.
Kallechy stopped 33 of the 34 shots the RiverKings fired at him and was phenomenal. Pensacola swept the three stars of the night with Ryan Hohl being named the 3rd star for his first goal, Dan Buccella's 3 point night earned him the 2nd star, and Kallechy's 34 save win got him the 1st start.
The Ice Flyers' will be in Lafayette, Louisiana tomorrow for a 3:05 faceoff with the Louisiana IceGators.
