Ice Flyers get past IceGators

Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release

Pensacola, Fla. - The Pensacola Ice Flyers defeat the Louisiana IceGators Saturday night in The Hangar.

"The guys never gave up throughout the game. They just kept grinding away and it paid off for them," Head coach Todd Gordon commented after the game. "I was extremely proud of the whole team tonight."

The high scoring, intense match proved to be just what the Ice Flyers needed before their push for the SPHL President's Cup. "This was a good win for us," commented Captain Mark Hinz. "We needed to put the previous four games behind us and this helped. Ultimately, our sights are still focused, however, on bringing the President's Cup to Pensacola."

Of the nine goals scored on the night, the bulk of the action occurred in the second period. Going into the second period both teams were deadlocked at 1. Louisiana would strike first in the second when Tobias Karlsson slipped a marker passed Pensacola's Ryan Scott. Pensacola would counter with two goals; the first by second star recipient, Kyle Dorowicz and the second by first star recipient, Dan Buccella. That would give the Ice Flyers the lead until Paul D'Agostino would tie things up with just over three minutes to play in the second. Former Ice Flyer Jason Hill would follow up less than 30 seconds later to make the score 3-4 heading into the third period.

The Ice Flyers' Dan Buccella would not fall kindly into another loss and notched one in to tie the game in the third. The Ice Flyers would end the night firing 64 shots at Louisiana's goal tender, Mike Brown, who, despite the loss, played a stellar match. Scott would finish the night with the win and 30 saves in 34 shots.

The SPHL overtime period would go scoreless forcing a shootout between the two teams. Assistant Captain Matt Whitehead pulled through for the Ice Flyers scoring the winning shot to clinch the victory.

The Ice Flyers will return to The Hangar Thursday for their last regular season game against the Huntsville Havoc before heading into the SPHL post-season. For additional information on games or promotions call (850) 466-3111 or visit www.pensacolaiceflyers.com.
