Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release

Pensacola, Fla. - The Pensacola Ice Flyers found themselves in familiar territory Saturday night as they headed into the third period trailing 3-1 to the Mississippi RiverKings. But on this night, they could not complete the comeback as RiverKing Kevin Willer scored an empty net goal to seal the 4-2 victory.

Matt Harrington of the RiverKings scored just 1:26 after the opening faceoff to take an early 1-0 lead. Chris Campanale took advantage of a power play and scored to make it 2-0.

Justin MacDonald would cut the lead in half 6:58 into the second, but with just over seven minutes left in the second period, Tyler Sheldrake restored the two-goal lead for the RiverKings.

The 3,922 fans in attendance were hoping the Ice Flyers could come from behind just like they did the night before versus Augusta. Tyler Soehner began the comeback with a slap shot that beat Mississippi netminder David Wilson on a 5-on-3 power play. But Willer put an end to it with his empty net goal with 39 seconds left on the clock.

Pensacola outshot Mississippi 42-24 and went 1-for-5 on the power play, while the RiverKings went 1-for-6.

The RiverKings skip across to Biloxi to take on the Mississippi Surge Sunday afternoon. The Ice Flyers take on first place Louisiana IceGators Sunday afternoon at 3:05 p.m. The St. Patrick's Day party starts at 1 p.m. with a party on the plaza with discounted beer, food and activities for the kids. Following the game, the entire team will be on the concourse for an autograph session.
