
Ice Flyers Drop Tight One 4-3 to Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ga. - The Pensacola Ice Flyers (12-7-1) dropped a Sunday afternoon contest to the Columbus Cottonmouths (9-9-4) 4-3 inside the Columbus Civic Center.
The Ice Flyers got on the board first when Brandon Blair scored his first goal of the season just 2:09 into the game with John Clewlow and Ryan Kesti picking up the assists. The goal was also Blair's first in an Ice Flyers uniform. Columbus tied the game up at one when Chris Rial was able to beat John McLean with 3:51 left in the first period. Pensacola quickly regained the lead, however, when Corey Banfield put the puck past Columbus' Brandon Jaeger with 3:04 left in the opening period. Joe Caveney and Phil Tesoriero picked up the assists.
Columbus tied the game thanks to a goal by Patrick McCadden 4:53 into the period. The Snakes then got their first lead of the game when Kyle Shapiro scored with 1:02 left in the second.
The Cottonmouths doubled their lead with just 4:24 left in the third when John Jackson scored his third goal of the season. With McLean pulled in favor of an extra attacker, Adam Pawlick cut the Columbus lead down to 4-3 with 1:57 left in the third. Kesti and Jeremy Gates had the assists.
McLean stopped 25 of Columbus' 29 shots for his first loss of the season.
The Ice Flyers are back in the Hangar Tuesday Night for $2 Hot Dog/$3 Draft Beer Night. The Ice Flyers will welcome the Huntsville Havoc into the Pensacola Bay Center for a 6:35 p.m. puck drop.
