Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release

KNOXVILLE, TN - The Pensacola Ice Flyers came into tonight's game with the Knoxville Ice Bears looking to set a new season high with a four-game win streak but it wasn't in the cards as the Ice Bears won 2-1.

Just like last night, neither team scored in the first period. However, unlike last night, the shots were much more even with both teams getting a fair amount of chances. Knoxville did hold a 10-7 shot advantage after 20 minutes.

Knoxville broke the scoreless tie with a power play goal by Francis Drolet that came 2:47 into the second period. Drolet's goal was the only goal of the second despite the Ice Bears outshooting Pensacola 16-7.

Ben Souders extended the Ice Bears' lead less than a minute into the third. It stood at 2-0 until Malcolm Lyles scored his second goal in as many nights with 4:15 remaining in regulation. Brett Lutes and John Dunbar picked up the assists. The Ice Flyers pulled Johnny Griggs to skate 6-on-5 and then found themselves on a 6-on-4 power play as Knoxville's Jon Higgins was called for boarding with 46 seconds left in the third. Unfortunately, Pensacola couldn't capitalize and the Ice Flyers fell 2-1 to the Ice Bears. Pensacola turned on the offense in the third, outshooting Knoxville 17-4 but Bryan Hince was there to slam the door every time but one.

Johnny Griggs stopped 28 of the 30 shots he faced.

The Ice Flyers continue their road trip next weekend when they take on the Fayetteville FireAntz in back-to-back games on Friday, Jan. 10 and Saturday, Jan. 11. Face off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Central Time on both nights.

Don't forget to purchase your tickets to the Ice Flyers' Fifth Anniversary weekend on Jan. 17 and 18 at Pen Air Federal Credit Union branches throughout the Pensacola area. Center Ice, Corner, and End Zone seats are only $5 each.
