
Ice Flyers Close out 2015 with a 4-3 Shootout Victory

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Pensacola Ice Flyers (13-7-1) closed out the year with a 4-3 shootout victory over the visiting Huntsville Havoc (14-8-1) inside the Pensacola Bay Center in front of 3,877 fans on Tuesday night.
After a scoreless first period, Jeremy Gates got the Ice Flyers on the board first with a power play blast just 1:35 into the second period that beat a screened Jordan Ruby. Stephen Buco and John Clewlow had the helpers. At the 7:20 mark of the second, current Ice Flyers captain Adam Pawlick cashed in with the Ice Flyers' second power play goal of the period with former Ice Flyers captain Brett Lutes in the box. The goal was assisted by Cole Ruwe and Joe Caveney.
John Lidgett began the Huntsville comeback 17 seconds into the third with a shorthanded goal. Nolan Kaiser tied the game at two 7:45 into the third with a power play goal. Pensacola regained the lead thanks to an unassisted shorthanded goal and some fancy stickwork by Corey Banfield with 9:26 left in the third but Huntsville tied the game with an even strength goal by Jeremy Beirnes just 20 seconds later.
After finishing both regulation and overtime tied at three, the teams headed to a shootout where Lutes scored in the second round for Huntsville while Banfield scored in the third round and Mike Krieg scored in the fourth round to solidify the win.
John McLean stopped 28 of the 31 shots he faced in regulation and overtime along with six of the seven shooters he faced in the shootout. Banfield was named the third star while Krieg was named the number one star.
The Ice Flyers will be back in the Hangar this Friday and Saturday when they host the Columbus Cottonmouths. Friday night will be New Year's Night and Saturday will be Social Media Night. Puck drop for both nights is 7:05 p.m.
