Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release
The Pensacola Ice Flyers arrived in Lafayette looking to widen the gap for 4th place between them and the Louisiana IceGators. However, tonight it was Louisiana that came out on top and won 2-0.
There was not much of anything to put on the score sheet tonight as there was no scoring for 58 minutes, and each team only had 3 minor penalties and 1 major penalty. Corey Milan received the nod in goal for the Ice Flyers once again. He has now played in all 5 games since he signed with Pensacola last week and has a record of 3-1-1. B.J. O'Brien was between the pipes for Louisiana and held strong the entire game, receiving the shutout and his 4th straight win at home.
Both teams battled back and forth, getting their chances on the powerplay but to no avail. It took until 1:59 remaining in the game for a goal to be scored. IceGators Jason Hill and Kevin Beauregard set up Robert Short to go up 1-0 late in the contest. It did not take long for Ice Flyers' coach Todd Gordon to pull Milan for an extra attacker. The gamble did not pay off this night as Shawn McNeil intercepted a Pensacola pass and fed former Ice Flyer Tyler Lyon who buried it in the empty net.
Louisiana outshot Pensacola 25-20, and both teams went 0-3 on the powerplay. Milan was named 3rd star for his near shut out performance. For the game winner, Short was the 2nd star and O'Brien received the 1st star nod for stopping all 20 shots he faced.
The Ice Flyers will travel to Biloxi on Friday to take on the Surge before returning home for their annual Mardi Gras Night on Saturday at 7:05PM when Louisiana comes to town. Then the Ice Flyers play a special Sunday matinee game, hosting the Huntsville Havoc at 3:05PM. It is Boy Scout Day at the Civic Center on Sunday where boy scouts can receive a discounted ticket at the Ice Flyers' office.
