Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release
Pensacola, Fla. - The Pensacola Ice Flyers finished playing their third game in as many days Sunday afternoon at the Pensacola Bay Center as the Columbus Cottonmouths came to town. It was a battle between the two teams with the lowest goals against and the result resembled that statistic as the Ice Flyers came out victorious 1-0.
The game was played on the Ice Flyers' annual Scout Day that brought 3,524 fans to the Bay Center. Gerry Festa, Pensacola's goaltender, recorded his second shut out of the season, second in the last nine days, both of which have been on home ice versus the Cottonmouths.
Ryan Salvis provided the only goal of the game when he buried a loose puck late in the second period. Brandon Vossberg and Jordan Chong had the assists.
Pensacola fired 34 shots on Columbus goaltender Andrew Loewen. The Cottonmouths could not get anything past Festa, as he turned aside all 25 shots he faced.
Both teams failed to score on the man advantage as Pensacola went 0 - 7 and Columbus went 0 - 3. This includes a two-man advantage in third period, first for Pensacola and then by Columbus.
Columbus travels to face Louisiana Thursday and Friday, and then completes their road weekend Saturday night in Biloxi, MS versus the Mississippi Surge. Pensacola is also on the road this upcoming week. They are in Biloxi on Friday and in Huntsville on Saturday.
