Surge Nipped by Louisiana

The Mississippi Surge's run of close games continued in a 3-2 loss to the Louisiana IceGators Sunday in Lafayette. It was the Surge's sixth straight game decided by one goal.

Defenseman Matt Ridley got things off on the right foot for Mississippi, opening the scoring at 8:56 of the first period. For Ridley it was his second goal in as many games. He was also +2 for the Surge on Sunday. However, the lead was short lived, as Matt Robertson tied the game for Louisiana just 42 seconds later.

Robertson kept things rolling for Louisiana, with a power play goal at 5:20 in the second period. Jeremy Boyer added another power play goal for the IceGators five minutes later. On the game Louisiana was 2-for-5 on the man advantage. In the 10 games between the two teams this season, Louisiana has scored half of its 32 goals on the power play. The IceGators have gone 16-of-56 for 28.6 percent on the power play against the Surge. The Surge has outscored Louisiana 25 to 19 when the teams have been at even strength.

Even trailing by two goals, the Surge didn't give up as Kyle Kudroch continued his hot scoring lately. He scored at 17:15 of the second period to get the Surge back within a goal. For Kudroch it was his third goal and fifth point in the last five games.

The Surge and IceGators will meet again Tuesday night, this time at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum at 7:05.
