Alex Friesen scored twice and added an assist as the Niagara Ice Dogs rode strong special teams play to a 6-3 win over the Spitfires Friday night at the WFCU Centre.
Dougie Hamilton and Andrew Agozzino each chipped in a goal and a helper in the win.
Kerby Rychel (15), Michael Clarke (9) and Ben Johnson (4) had the goals for Windsor (12-13-2-1).
The story of the game was special teams; as Niagara scored twice on the power play and twice shorthanded.
"We worked on special teams a lot this week," head coach Bob Boughner said after the game. "So, this is obviously disappointing."
The Spits trailed 4-1 after 20 minutes, but fought back to pull within a goal after 40.
With the Spits pressing for the equalizer, the game was decided on an Agozzino breakaway goal as Windsor held the man advantage, five minutes into the third period.
John Cullen was pulled after allowing four goals on 17 shots in the first period. It was the second consecutive home game Jaroslav Pavelka came on in relief on Cullen. The 18-year-old Czech netminder was outstanding, allowing just a single goal on 29 shots.
Next upfor the Spitfires is a home date with Peterborough on Sunday afternoon (2:05 PM).
