Ice Dogs Add Rookie Defenseman Luke Fritshaw

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Long Beach Ice Dogs announced today that defenseman Luke Fritshaw has agreed to terms for the 2005-2006 season. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The 6'4", 208-pound native of Tisdale, Saskatchewan, was originally drafted by the Might Ducks of Anaheim in the 6th Round (173rd overall) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. He played the last five seasons for the Prince Albert Raiders of the Western Hockey League, where he accumulated 14 goals, 75 assists and 496 penalty minutes in 270 games. Last season he was his teams leading scoring defenseman, with 41 points in 72 games, and was tied for fourth overall on the team in points. He finished tied for third on his team in playoff scoring with 10 points in 17 games.

"Luke is a big, tough, strong defenseman with a good shot", said Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations, Malcolm Cameron. "He had a career season last year in the WHL. He's got good character, he's a good leader, and gives us additional size and toughness on the back line."
