Knoxville Ice Bears News Release
Knoxville, TN - Evan Neugold scored two goals and added an assist. Eliot Grauer, Berkley Scott and David Brancik each had a goal and an assist and the Knoxville Ice Bears defeated the Birmingham Bulls 6-3 on Friday at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum.
Lucas Bombardier also scored and Troy Davenport made 23 saves for the Ice Bears, who have won six of their last seven. Josh Harris, Taylor Dickin and Jacob Barber scored for Birmingham, which has dropped two straight.
The evening was highlighted by the return of Knoxville forward and the SPHL's all-time leading scorer Kevin Swider. Swider, making his first pro appearance in six seasons had an assist on the night.
Neugold opened the scoring in his first game back for Knoxville after he fielded a pass at the blue line, deked a defender and fired a wrister from the high slot past the right leg of Charlie Millen at 7:53 of the first. It was Neugold's first game as an Ice Bear since early December.
Knoxville also saw the return of rookie defensemen Mike Chen after a month in the ECHL. Chen added two assists.
Dickin tied the game before the first intermission with a shot through traffic from the right point.
Lucas Bombardier extended the lead when the puck skidded loose from the corner and right to him on the left hash. Bombardier's one-timer beat Millen's blocker at 2:34 of the second. Brancik made it 3-1 Knoxville when Grauer forced the puck down the right wing while shorthanded. Grauer found Brancik in the slot to set him up for his fifth goal in six games.
Berkley Scott made it 4-1 by beating Millen five-hole from the high slot on the power play at 7:59 of the third. Following Harris' goal Neugold redirected a shot by Lawrence Cornellier for his second of the night. Grauer gave Knoxville its largest lead with a wrist shot from the slot, ending the night for Millen.
Knoxville travels to Roanoke to take on the Rail Yard Dawgs. Join all of your Ice Bears fans at the Crown and Goose in the Old City tomorrow as they show the games on 4 large screen TVs.
