Ice Bears Sign Two and Add to Front Office Staff

Knoxville, TN - (September 25, 2012) The Knoxville Ice Bears announce the return of forward Mike Towns and the addition of forward Anthony Collins. The organization has also added Austin Gantz as Ticket and Corporate Sales Manager to the front office.

Towns, 6'4'', 220 pounds, will return for his second season with the Ice Bears. During his rookie campaign, the power forward scored nine goals and 15 assists. Towns registered 82 penalty minutes after playing the 2011-12 season.

The native of Surrey, BC has complimented his size and power with a knack for scoring timely goals. Eight of his nine goals were either game winning goals or were scored in games eventually decided by one goal. Towns graduated from Adrian College, where he amassed 24 goals, 36 assists and 213 penalty minutes during his collegiate career.

"Towns provides our team with great leadership, character and also brings the intangible of toughness," commented Head Coach Mike Craigen. "He makes everyone on our roster six inches taller and 20 pounds heavier when he is on the ice, and he has established himself as one of the SPHL's toughest players."

In addition to Towns, the Ice Bears are also pleased to announce the signing of Anthony Collins. Collins, 6'4'' 215 pounds is a native of Surrey, BC. He last skated with the Gnesta Bluewings of the Swedish Elite Third Division. The forward last saw North American action with the Winkler Flyers of the Manitoba Jr. Hockey League, where he contributed 12 goals, 16 assists and 135 penalty minutes in 35 games.

"Anthony comes to us as a highly recommended player from Western Canada," stated Head Coach Craigen regarding his latest addition to the roster. "His size and rugged style of play are complimented by a willingness to go to the net for ugly points."

The Knoxville Ice Bears are pleased to announce the addition of Austin Gantz as Ticket and Corporate Sales Manager. The University of Florida graduate joins the Ice Bears after serving as an intern with the organization over the summer. In addition to securing new business, Gantz will provide support for the ticketing and corporate partnership departments.

The Knoxville Ice Bears will kick off the season with a Charity Golf Classic. The event will run from 11:30 am to 5 pm on Thursday, October 4, 2012. Contact the Ice Bears office for information.
