Ice Bears sign rookie David Segal
July 18, 2006 - SPHL (SPHL)
Knoxville Ice Bears News Release
Twenty-year old right-winger David Segal played this past season with the Winnipeg South Blues; Segal had 5 goals and 6 assists along with 168 PIM in the regular season after being acquired November 30th. Segal elevated his play in the playoffs and contributed 6 goals and 2 assists along with 38 PIM helping the Blues to the MJHL's Turnbull Cup.
Coach Jim Bermingham is looking forward to Segal bringing his aggressive style of play to the Ice Bears as they defend the SPHL Championship title.
Segal plays a very intense game and loves to mix things up. While only 5'10, 170 lbs., Segal plays like he is 3 inches taller and 30 pounds heavier. He will take on anyone in order to defend himself or his teammates and when given the opportunity, can chip in offensively as seen in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League playoffs, where he collected 6 goals and 2 assists in 12 games. His skating is excellent; he sees the ice very well and was one of the fastest skaters in the MJHL this past season.
