Knoxville, TN - Ice Bears Fall Short to Rivermen 2-0
The Knoxville Ice Bears and 3,127 fans hosted the Peoria Rivermen in the Civic Coliseum tonight for the first time this season. The teams play this weekend after facing off in two games last weekend in Peoria. The Rivermen notched their third consecutive win against the Ice Bears 2-0.
The Ice Bears hit the ice with a steady, fast pace, but Peoria took the lead at 5:12 with a goal from Parker Stanfield on a rebound. The Ice Bears received one power play in the first period when Aaron McGill was penalized 2 minutes for tripping. Peoria held onto the lead and skated into the first intermission leading 1-0.
Peter Neal was sent to the penalty box for boarding 1:02 minutes into the second period leaving Peoria skating 5-on-4. With 5 seconds left on their power play, Jeremiah Ketts joined Neal in the box for tripping. The Ice Bears erased the penalty, but didn't capitalize on their man advantage.
The teams continued battling back and forth through the second. Both teams skated one more power play, but the score stayed locked at 1-0 going into the second intermission.
Knoxville completed another penalty kill at the start of the third period. At the 1:59 minute mark, Brad Pawlowski pushed Peoria's Nick Prockow to the ice, and both players were penalized for roughing.
Peoria notched their final goal with 16:51 remaining in the third period. The Ice Bears skated two more power plays, but couldn't push the puck past Kyle Rank. It was a defensive battle the entiree game. Knoxville's Bryan Hince stopped 22 shots, and Rank held off 32 shots on goal.
The teams will rematch in the Civic Coliseum tomorrow night for the epic Star Wars Night. The 501st Legion will be in attendance dressed as your favorite Star Wars characters.
