
Ice Bears Light up Havoc in Home Opener

Knoxville, TN - The Knoxville Ice Bears kicked off their home season with a 5-3 win over the Huntsville Havoc.
The Huntsville Havoc jumped out to an early lead when Justin Fox scored just 1:22 into the game on their first shot. Immediately following the goal, an arena malfunction provided head coach Mike Craigen an opportunity to settle his team down early to ease the bottled energy of the first home game of the season.
Teams traded scoring opportunities in the first period but nether were able to find the back of the net - ending the first 20 minutes with a 1-0 Huntsville lead.
The second period really picked up for the Ice Bears. They managed to score three goals in under three minutes to take a 3-1 lead. Emery Olauson notched both of his, a minute apart, in tight around Havoc netminder, Dan McWhinney. The Ice Bears third goal was on a dazzling penalty shot from Berkley Scott.
Huntsville cut the lead in half at 12:55 on an unassisted goal by Justin Fox to finish off the second period scoring with a 3-2 Ice Bears lead.
The third peiord saw the Ice Bears continue to pour on the offense when Scott notched his second goal of the game on a short angle shot in the top corner of the net at 4:55 of the period.
Havoc forward Ray Ortiz kept the visitors within striking distance on his marker at 14:45 to make it 4-3 Ice Bears.
Captian David Segal all but sealed victory with his one timer in the high slot at 17:17 of the period, for a final score 5-3.
The Knoxville Ice Bears travel to Augusta tomorrow at 7:35 pm. Come out and enjoy the game at Buffalo Wild Wings at Turkey Creek to cheer on the Ice Bears with your Knoxville Ice Bears family.
The Ice Bears are back home on ice on Friday, Nov. 9 at 7:30 pm to host the Augusta RiverHawks.
