Southaven, Mississippi--The Mississippi RiverKings held off a late comeback by the Louisiana IceGators to claim a 5-2 victory. Ian Finnerty led the RiverKings (3-0) in scoring with two goals. The IceGators (2-1) had seven powerplay opportunities, but they could not convert any of them.

The IceGators travel to Pensacola to play the IceFlyers (2-1) Saturday night.

Finnerty opened the scoring at 16:57 of the first period off of assists from Nick Walsh and Paul Kurceba. Mississippi took a 2-0 lead midway through the second on a Tyler Sheldrake goal. The IceGators tied the score within the first seven minutes of the third period. Matt Miller converted a penalty shot 45 seconds into the frame, while Robert Short scored off of an Eric Tallent assist at the 6:57 mark. Finnerty shut down the comeback when he scored his second goal at the 13:10 mark of the period. Jeremy Dawes and Darrell Stoddard added insurance goals later in the period.

"Tonight was a battle," said IceGators head coach Kevin Kaminski. "The guys fought hard to tie the score in the third." Kaminski then pinpointed the cause of his team's loss. "A turnover and a pinch cost us," he said. "We need to have pucks in and out of the blue lines, and our pinches need to be perfect. We need to respond tomorrow and break even on this road trip."
