Ice Bears Fall to Ice Flyers

Knoxville, TN - The Knoxville Ice Bears took the ice in the Civic Coliseum tonight joined by fan-favorite Brad Pawlowski for his first game back after recovering from an injury. A crowd of 2,997 saw the Ice Bears fall to the Pensacola Ice Flyers 3-0.

Knoxville's Bryan Hince and Pensacola's Ross MacKinnon held strong in the goals, and neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first period. The Ice Bears saw two 5-on-4 power plays during the period, but weren't able to capitalize on the advantage. The Ice Bears battled hard in the first period by out shooting the Ice Flyers 10-3.

The Ice Bears registered their only penalty of the game in the second period. At the 11:54 minute mark Lucas Schramm was penalized 2 minutes for hooking. Ice Flyer Justin Alonzo roofed a backdoor pass past Hince on that man advantage for the first goal of the game. Despite registering another 11 shots, MacKinnon held fort to keep the Ice Bears scoreless.

Pensacola solidified their win in the third period. Malcolm Lyles buried a one-timer past Hince for 2-0 at 7:44. The Ice Bears pulled Hince to skate an extra attacker in the final 2 minutes of the game. Pensacola's Ryan Salvis blocked a shot off his leg sending him unimpeded toward an empty net for the final marker of the game.

Some of the SPHL's best former Ice Bears are returning to the ice in a USA veterans vs Canada veterans game. Puck drops at 5 p.m. for the Legends and again at 7:30 p.m. for the Ice Bears match-up. There will be also be a special pregame ceremony to retire Ice Bears legend Kevin Swider's jersey number.
