Knoxville Ice Bears News Release
Knoxville, TN - Charlie Granath scored at 1:02 of the overtime period and the Knoxville Ice Bears beat the Fayetteville Marksmen 5-4 at the Civic Coliseum on Friday. The Ice Bears have won three straight since losing in overtime to Fayetteville last Friday.
Granath chased a loose puck behind the Fayetteville net and fed it to Lucas Bombardier in the high slot. Bombardier found Eliot Grauer in the left circle, who let it rip from the dot. Fayetteville goalie Dillon Kelley stopped Grauer's attempt, but Granath was waiting for the rebound on the right side of the crease and tapped the puck in to end the game.
Fayetteville started the scoring with a slap shot from Travis Jeke that beat Michael Santaguida's blocker at 16:52 of the first. Santaguida exited the game and Mason Pulde played the rest of the first period for Knoxville. Santaguida returned to start the second period.
The Marksmen added to their lead with a goal from David Mazurek at 5:18 of the second. Stanslav Dzakhov got Knoxville on the board at 8:24, but Fayetteville responded with a goal by Darren McCormick 28 seconds later.
Eric Ylitalo cut the deficit to 3-2 with a power play goal at 12:13. He cleaned up a loose puck to tie the game at 9:51 of the third. The Ice Bears took their first lead of the night when Danny Cesarz lifted a saucer pass from the left circle to the right side of the crease where Marcus Ortiz was waiting for it to make it 4-3. Fayetteville forced overtime with Tim Kielich's goal with under five minutes to play.
Michael Santaguida finished with 26 saves for Knoxville. Kelley had 24 stops for the Marksmen.
The two teams will face off again Saturday night in Fayetteville for the third time in nine days. Join Ice Bears fans and staff at Stefano's in Turkey Creek to watch the game live.
