Iowa Cubs News Release
PAPILLION, NE - The Iowa Cubs (10-18) dropped their fourth straight to the Omaha Storm Chasers (21-8) in the series finale on Sunday at Werner Park.
Adrian Sampson went six innings in his third start for Iowa, good for his longest outing of the season so far. He allowed five earned runs on eight hits and a walk and struck out three.
The Storm Chasers got out in front early, cashing in on a trio of singles in the first for the first run of the game. Bubba Starling led off the next inning with a solo home run and Omaha took an early 2-0 lead.
Iowa fought back in their half of the third, briefly tying the game at two on a double from Dee Gordon and an RBI triple from Andrew Romine, but Ryan O'Hearn quickly put Omaha back in front with his fifth home run of the series. Gabriel Cancel and Starling added insurance with back-to-back homers in the sixth inning, and Sampson left a 5-2 ballgame in line for the loss.
Michael Hermosillo drove in one more run on an RBI single in the eighth, bringing the I-Cubs back within two, but Cancel hit his second home run of the game with two men on to put the Storm Chasers up 8-3, where it would stay for the balance of the game.
POSTGAME NOTES:
- Andrew Romine went 3-for-3 with a double, a triple, a walk, an RBI, and two runs scored. He was just a home run shy of the cycle.
- Tonight marks the third time this season and the second this series that Iowa has surrendered five home runs in a game.
- Adam Morgan pitched around an error and tossed a hitless seventh inning. It was his seventh scoreless outing out of nine total appearances this season.
- The I-Cubs have now recorded at least one error in each of their last seven games. They have 19 total errors on the season.
Iowa will return to action on Tuesday, when they open a series against Columbus at Principal Park. First pitch between the two teams is set for 6:38 pm. For more information and tickets, visit www.iowacubs.com.
