Indianapolis Indians News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - The Columbus Clippers put up four runs on five consecutive hits in the fifth inning to take a 4-1 win over the Indianapolis Indians in a rain-shortened series finale on Sunday afternoon. The game was called with two outs in the top of the ninth inning after a 42-minute rain delay.
The Clippers (10-19) put up all four runs off Indians starter Max Kranick (L, 0-1) with one out in the fifth inning. Kranick had allowed just two hits through the first four innings before surrendering a one-out double to Connor Marabell to begin Columbus' parade of hits.
Down 4-0, the Indians (15-14) took one run back in the bottom of the eighth inning when Christian Bethancourt drove in T.J. Rivera on an infield single. On the play, Phillip Evans was thrown out at home by Andres Gimenez to end the inning.
Columbus had runners at second and third with two outs in the top of the ninth inning when the rain forced the game into a delay. After 42 minutes, the game was called due to poor field conditions.
Triston McKenzie (W, 1-0) tossed 5.1 scoreless innings during his Triple-A debut. The lone Indians run was unearned on Jordan Stephens' line.
Indianapolis goes to Nashville for a six-game series between the Triple-A Midwest and Southeast divisions beginning on Tuesday at 8:05 PM ET. RHP Zack Godley (3-0, 0.90) will take the mound for the Sounds while Indy has yet to name a starter.
