
Hustle Can't Sustain Hot Start, Fall to South Bay

El Segundo, Calif. - The Memphis Hustle dropped the first of a three-game road trip 125-116 to the South Bay Lakers Wednesday at UCLA Health Training Center. The Hustle led by as many as 15 in the opening frame before South Bay eventually took control of the game.
Memphis was firing on all cylinders in the first quarter, assisting on 10 of its 13 made field goals (13-23 FG) and knocking down 4-of-6 three-point attempts in route to a 34-21 lead heading into the second quarter. The Lakers would then promptly take over, outscoring the Hustle 80-51 in the second and third quarters, including a 41-21 margin in the second.
Omari Johnson poured in a game-high 29 points (6-11 3P) to go with 10 rebounds. Johnson is averaging 22.0 points per game over his last seven games and 26.0 points in his last three. Marquis Teague had 28 points and a game-high 10 assists on his 25th birthday, marking his second-highest scoring total of the season and fourth double-double. Chance Comanche contributed 17 points and eight rebounds on 5-of-8 shooting (7-8 FT). Jeremy Morgan (13 points) also reached double digits.
Scott Machado (23 points, nine assists) led the Lakers in scoring and assists off the bench. Alex Caruso (20 points) also reached the 20-point plateau and distributed five assists. Robert Heyer knocked down 4-of-7 three-point attempts on his way to a 19-point outing. James Southerland posted 18 points and five rebounds off the bench while Michael Holyfield (14 points, 14 rebounds) recorded his second double-double of the season.
The Hustle continue the three-game road trip when they take on the Northern Arizona Suns on Friday at 8 p.m. CT. The Hustle's next home game takes place on Saturday, March 10 at noon against the Santa Cruz Warriors. Tickets are still available and start for as low as $10.
