Santa Cruz Warriors News Release
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Santa Cruz Warriors brought a well-rounded scoring attack in their return to Kaiser Permanente Arena to beat the Northern Arizona Suns tonight, 141-117. Santa Cruz scored at least 33 points and shot at least 50% from the field in every quarter to secure a new season-high scoring night by shooting 60.9% (56-of-92) from the field.
In his first G League game since joining the USA Basketball World Cup Qualifying Team last Thursday, Santa Cruz guard Damion Lee had a season-high 30 points on 10-of-15 from the field. Lee joined Quinn Cook (eight times) and Terrence Jones (two times) as the only Warriors to reach the 30-point plateau this season. All nine active Warriors played at least 17 minutes and secured at least four points and three rebounds, with seven players reaching double figure scoring.
Two-way forward Chris Boucher secured new career-highs of 24 points and 18 rebounds to go along with three blocks in only his second career-start. Making his Santa Cruz debut, guard Jeremy Pargo scored 23 points and a team-high eight assists, with fellow guard Jabari Brown notching 18 points in his return to Kaiser Permanente Arena.
Forward Alec Peters paced Northern Arizona with 28 points on 7-of-13 shooting, all from behind the arc, with a team-high seven assists. Two-way forward Danuel House had 26 points, three rebounds and four assists, and Lee's USA Basketball teammate Xavier Silas finished with 14 points and four rebounds.
Both teams started the game sizzling from behind the arc, hitting seven threes apiece with better than 50% shooting. Despite Silas playing the whole second quarter and scoring 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting, Boucher dominated the action with eight points and four rebounds to give a 68-62 halftime lead.
Santa Cruz built up to a 26-point lead in the second half by securing a season-high 73 points on 28-of-43 (65.1%) from the field. After being outrebounded by at least 14 boards in the last two games, the Warriors dominated the glass tonight with a 63-26 rebounding advantage. Tonight's win snapped Santa Cruz's three-game losing streak against the Suns and secured their second win in the month of February.
Santa Cruz (20-20) will continue their three-game homestand on Friday night against the Oklahoma City Blue (21-20), with the first 1,500 fans to arrive at Kaiser Permanente Arena receiving a Warriors beach towel, courtesy of Devon Construction.
