Charlotte Checkers News Release
RALEIGH, NC - Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team will recall forward Riley Nash from the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL). To make room for Nash on the roster, forward Jeff Skinner will be placed on injured reserve, retroactive to Dec. 7. Nash is being recalled on an emergency basis for forward Tim Brent, who was injured during the team's practice at the RBC Center on Tuesday.
Nash, 22, has scored two goals and earned seven assists (9 points) while playing in each of the Checkers' 31 games this season. The Consort, Alb., native is in his second professional season following three years with the Cornell Big Red of the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC), and has earned 41 points (16g, 25a) in 110 career AHL games with Charlotte. Nash (6'1", 191 lbs.) averaged a point per game at Cornell, with 37 goals and 65 assists (102 points) in 102 games. He is a former first-round (21st overall in 2007) of the Edmonton Oilers, and was acquired by Carolina on June 26, 2010, in exchange for a 2010 second-round pick. Nash has yet to make his NHL debut.
