Aeros Fall to Stars 3-2

HOUSTON ---- Chad Rau had a goal and an assist and Cody Almond added his fourth goal of the season, but the Houston Aeros surrendered three second period goals to the Texas Stars and fell 3-2 Wednesday at Toyota Center.

Matt Hackett made 22 saves in goal for Houston as the Aeros dropped to 16-6-2-7. The loss dropped the Aeros to third place in the AHL's West Division, three points behind first place Oklahoma City and one point behind No. 2 Abbotsford.

Rau, who has scored five of his six goals on the season against the Stars, gave the Aeros a 1-0 lead at 7:58 of the first period. The Stars tied it at 1-1 in the second period on a goal by Hubert Labrie at the 8:31 mark.

Almond put the Aeros back up 2-1 on a short-handed goal at 16:06 of the second period, but Ryan Garbutt answered for Texas with a goal at 17 minutes in the second period and another goal 1:08 later to put Texas up 3-2.

The Aeros finish a three-game homestand against the San Antonio Rampage at 7:05 p.m. Monday at Toyota Center.

BOMB DROPPINGS

Cody Almond has a goal in three straight AHL games and a five-game points streak (3-2=5)... Chad Rau had his first two-point game since Dec. 2 at Rochester and his third two-point game of the season... Rau also has a point in three straight games (2-2=4)... Almond's short-handed goal was Houston's first since Warren Peters scored a short-handed tally Dec. 6 at San Antonio... The loss marked just the second time the Aeros have fallen in regulation in back-to-back games this season.
