
Hurricanes squeeze by T-Birds

Lethbridge, AB, November 13, 2007 - The Lethbridge Hurricanes defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 3-2 Tuesday night at the Enmax Centre in Lethbridge, Alberta.
This was the second game of a six-game road trip to the Central Division. The T-Birds lost in overtime, 2-1, to the Kootenay Ice on Sunday in the first game of the trip.
The T-Birds face the Calgary Hitmen on Wednesday, November 14, at 6 p.m. and then have three games in three days over the weekend against the Medicine Hat Tigers, Red Deer Rebels and Edmonton Oil Kings.
Seattle (8-6-3-1) took a 1-0 lead on a power-play goal by Lindsay Nielsen at 10:35 of the first period. Brenden Dillon took a shot from the point that Lethbridge goalie Juha Metsola stopped but couldn't control. Jan Eberle jabbed at the rebound and the puck came to Nielsen at the right post. Nielsen put the puck past Metsola for his fourth goal of the year.
The Hurricanes tied the game 1-1 with a power-play goal by Luca Sbisa at 18:24 of the first. Adam Chorneyko and Dwight King had the assists.
Lethbridge (14-7-1-1) outshot Seattle 17-9 in the first period.
The Hurricanes had a 29-12 advantage in shots on goal at the end of the second period by outshooting the T-Birds 12-2 in the middle frame.
Mitch Fadden scored a power-play goal at 7:19 of the third period to give the Hurricanes a 2-1 lead. Zach Boychuk and Ben Wright had the assists.
Chorneyko scored a power-play goal at 15:50 of the third to give Lethbridge a 3-1 lead. King and Wright had the assists.
The T-Birds pulled goalie Riku Helenius for an extra attacker late in the third period. It paid off as Ian McKenzie put a slap shot past Mutsola from the top of the right circle at 18:49 of the third to cut the lead to one goal.
The Hurricanes outshot the T-Birds 10-7 in the third period and 39-18 in the game.
Helenius (5-5-3-0) made 36 saves on 39 shots.
Mutsola (6-3-0-0) stopped 16 of 18 shots.
